Privacy policy
How Asha Nandanvan handles personal information for this website, sign-in, orders, and backyard visits.
Last updated 27 September 2026.
1. Who we are
Asha Nandanvan is a private backyard in the Penrith City Council local government area,
New South Wales, Australia. We sell garden produce and composting supplies, offer composting
education visits, and take a small number of dog-sitting stays. Pickup and visits are in
Sydney. We do not publish the street address on this site.
This policy is for ashanandanvan.com.au and the related Facebook Login app.
It is not a Penrith City Council, NSW Government, or Australian Government policy.
2. How to contact us
Privacy and data-deletion requests: admin@ashanandanvan.com.au.
You can also write to us through our
Facebook page.
Please do not send payment card numbers, passwords, or copies of identity documents unless we
ask for a limited check after a deletion or access request.
3. Australian privacy law
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the
Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. Some small
businesses with annual turnover under $3 million are not required to comply with the Privacy Act.
We still use the APPs as our standard because this site creates accounts, uses Google and
Facebook sign-in, and stores booking details.
The NSW Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 applies to NSW public
sector agencies. We are a private backyard, not a council or government agency, so that Act
does not regulate us. NSW and Penrith rules that do affect us are about how the backyard is
run (animals, food, amenity), not a separate privacy code.
If we cannot resolve a privacy complaint, you may contact the
Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
For a goods or services dispute, NSW Fair Trading may be the better first step.
4. Penrith backyard, NSW animals, and food
The backyard sits in the Penrith LGA. We keep poultry and host dogs as a private household
arrangement. We consider NSW companion animal rules and Penrith Council keeping-of-animals
requirements when we decide whether we can take a stay. That is why we ask for the dog’s name
and breed, and why some large breeds need a trial stay first.
We do not give Penrith City Council, NSW Police, or the NSW Food Authority your details as a
routine share. We may disclose limited information if Australian or NSW law requires it — for
example a serious dog incident, a food-safety notice, or a lawful request. We are not a
council pound, veterinary practice, or registered food business page on this site, and this
policy does not claim any council licence.
5. What we collect
We only collect what we need to run the site and the backyard:
- Account: email address, display name, and the Google or Facebook login key. We do not set a site password.
- Orders: name, email, optional phone, pickup or visit date and window, items, amounts, and order status.
- Dog sitting: pet name, breed, stay dates, and whether the stay is a trial. We use this for safety, capacity, and the trial-then-longer-stay process.
- Payments: that a payment was made, the provider name, and a payment reference. We do not store full card numbers. Square or Stripe collect card details on their own pages.
- Basket: items you add, including pet details for a stay. Signed-in baskets are stored on our server. Guest baskets stay in your browser.
- Technical: cookies needed to keep you signed in, and ordinary server or hosting logs (which may include an IP address and the page requested).
We do not collect government identifiers, health records, or payment card PANs. We do not ask
Facebook for your friends list, posts, photos, or the right to publish on your profile.
Facebook Login is limited to your name and email.
6. How we collect it
- Directly from you on this site (checkout, booking fields, messages you send us).
- From Google or Facebook when you choose that sign-in and they share the name and email you allow.
- From Square or Stripe when a payment succeeds or fails (status and reference only).
If Facebook or Google does not share an email, we cannot create an account. You can use the
other sign-in or contact us.
7. Why we use it
- Create and keep your signed-in session.
- Take, approve, reject, and fulfil orders and backyard visits.
- Decide whether we can host a dog, including a trial stay.
- Take payment after we approve an order, or record cash at pickup.
- Contact you about that order, stay, or pickup window.
- Keep the site secure and diagnose faults.
- Meet Australian Consumer Law and tax record-keeping where those apply.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use Facebook Login data to advertise to your friends.
8. Who else sees it
- Us: the people who run Asha Nandanvan, to approve orders and host visits.
- Google or Meta/Facebook: only if you sign in with them. Their policies then also apply to that sign-in.
- Square or Stripe: if you pay online.
- Microsoft Azure: website, database, and diagnostic hosting, currently in Australia.
- Authorities: only if Australian or NSW law requires it, or to protect a person or animal from serious harm.
9. Overseas disclosure
Your account and orders are stored on our Australian-hosted database. Google, Meta/Facebook,
and Square or Stripe are overseas organisations (often in the United States). If you use those
services, some of your information is disclosed outside Australia. Those companies apply their
own privacy and security controls. We do not control their systems.
10. Cookies and local storage
We use an authentication cookie so you stay signed in, and a guest-basket value in your
browser until you sign in. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on this site.
You can clear cookies and site data in your browser; that signs you out and drops a guest basket.
11. Children
This site is for people 18 years or older. We do not knowingly create accounts for children.
Orders, pickup, and dog sitting are adult arrangements. If you believe a child has an account,
email admin@ashanandanvan.com.au and we will delete it.
12. Security
Access to the admin tools is limited to the backyard operators. Sign-in uses Google or Facebook
rather than a password on this site. Payments go through a hosted checkout. No method is
perfect. If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to cause serious harm, we will
follow the Notifiable Data Breaches process, including notice to affected people and the OAIC
when that scheme applies.
13. How long we keep it
Account and login details stay until you ask us to delete them, or we close the account.
We may keep a limited order record (what was booked, paid, and when) for as long as Australian
tax or consumer law reasonably requires — often several years — then delete or de-identify it.
Server logs are kept only for a short operational period.
14. Access, correction, and deletion
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it,
or ask us to delete it. We aim to respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm the request
came from you. See User data deletion for the Facebook and account
deletion steps.
We may refuse access or full deletion only where Australian law allows it — for example where
we must keep a transaction record, or where giving access would unreasonably affect someone else.
If we refuse, we will say why in plain language.
15. Email and marketing
We do not run a marketing list on this site. If we later send booking or order emails, those
are transactional. Any promotional email would include a way to opt out, in line with the
Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
16. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. Continued use of the site
after a change means the new wording applies to information we collect from then on.
